| | In the Lobby | Hey guys... let's not reduce ourselves to name calling or start a flame war over beliefs or lack thereof. I just wanted to post some info about the movie, since there might be some people who would choose not to see it, based on the feelings of the author of the books, which the movie is based.
I don't think the movie will turn god-worshiping kids into atheists, anymore than kids turning into killers because they played some violent video game. Parents should make the choice for their kids under a certain age for either one (movie or game).
I'm not even a staunch church goer. In fact, I think the last time I went to church was for some kind of dinner social (food motivates me)!
Let's keep the comments friendly and not overly emotional. There's no need for "godless people are damned to Hell" or "god-worshiping people are fools" type of remarks.
In the end... you're all just a bunch of video game-playing losers!
***Just kidding!!!***
Keep it friendly!

I am a christian but I very liberal in all my beliefs. I don't go to church because I have not found a church that shares my beliefs. Anytime anybody makes a move against any religion except christianity, all hell breaks loose. They can celebrate Kwanza and Hannaka (SP?) in school, but certainly not Christmas or easter.
The bible bangers want the right to tell us how to live and copulate, what we can and cannot do, etc. Some of the really nutty ones like to yell "GOD HATES FAGS" and protest dead soldier's funerals. They want to tell you that not only can you not use birth control, but then that you can't choose what to do with an unwanted pregnancy.
Now go ahead and express your own feelings about god in a negative light (golden compass) and they lose their collective minds over it.
As a wise young lady was quoted earlier in this thread, God can take care of her/himself. He/she wants you to question, explore and come to her/him when and if you are ready. Slavery and mindless servitude is for democrats and republicans, not christians. It's only a movie and I think God will understand if you are bored on a friday night and go see it.

They are also the people who tend to follow opinions of their leaders blindly without even thinking and making their own decision on the topic.

However, it baffles me that old school can come in here and make a harmless post, and then someone else can come in, make a bunch of assumptions, and say the sort of things that I've read in this thread. It's not right. I have not once taken sides on this issue, but instead just said that he should be able to make a post about this issue without people tearing him to shreds about it.
And speaking of assumptions, here's another one you made based on zero fact: Quote:

I'm just saying that before you come in and make a post, you should take a minute and actually read what someone wrote, and not jump to conclusions about what they are actually thinking. You know what they say, when you assume, you make an ass out of yo u and me. It's very true. By claiming that my parents controlled the way I thought and that I might be thinking to do the same with my children, you made an ass out of yourself, me, and frankly, my parents.

So, did anyone in here see this film? Not bad as far as a kids movie goes, and although I fail to see how it had anything to do with god at all, I imagine you can make the case for it in the film. The special effects were pretty good, and it was dark, in a good way. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it felt like the kids movies our generation grew up with, like Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, not the candy coated stuff we see today.
I don't know, didn't read the books, but I'm going to check them out now after seeing the film. It already made enough to justify the sequel, so I'm guessing we're going to see even better special effects in the next one.
Also, Daniel Craig is pretty awesome, just as an all around actor. Although I keep seeing him as bond or his character in Layer Cake.

Keep it friendly! | Just in case people didn't catch the "just kidding" portion of my message (when my message got "quoted"), when I used the greater/less than symbols around it... it left out the VERY IMPORTANT part of my tone, so I just wanted to reiterate it (and make sure the edit I made fixed the problem)!
I don't think any of you are video game-playing losers - otherwise... I'm one, too!

Don't worry too much man. If people can't read the whole post/thread, it's not your problem anyway. People will twist what they read for sure... and you can just about make anyone look like they said something else.
