I've finished the single-player and even started going back to it so I can find all the intel & get the achievements. The sp is still great to me. But the mp has sort of run it's course already. I still like it, but it's sort of growing stale!
To be honest, I've never really been that great at "run & gun" type shooters, but being at the bottom of the list nearly everytime, it's getting old spending more time respawning & watching the kill cam than actually being "alive."
The maps are too similar and rather bland... Unlike other games like GRAW or even CoD3, it's hard to give a pinpoint location ("they're in that brown building with the windows blown out!"). A simple compass could at least fix this like they have in sp. They're also so crowded and small that you never know if someone's coming at you from your blind side until you're looking through the killcam. Some may like this, but I'd rather have wide open maps than ones where people are camped in a corner of a building waiting for people to run in.
I don't have an issue with the weapons, just that you have to level up to get the better ones. If everyone had the option to use the same weapons regardless of level, I think it would be more fair. Simply having the time to put in hours when others don't for the benefits is a little irritating to me.
I actually like the helos & airstrikes, but I wish the radar/UAV would only come on if someone got the kills & used it like the helos/airstrikes. Always being able to see people if they're shooting... takes out the element of surprise to me.
Finally, the perks... I thought at first they were great because of the originality to them, but now I just find them annoying. Martyrdom is a great example (although I have noticed that when I have sleight of hand as one perk, I've been able to toss away those pesky last 'nades & can almost hear the dude I've killed cursing).
A few things that are missing from this game that SHOULD be there, imo:
1.) A lean function. Why this isn't in there, I don't know. Anyone who's played MoH:A knows that it isn't going to slow down the pace; if anything, it would help make more intense shootouts!
2.) A compass. For the obvious reasons - stated above.
3.) Bigger maps. These maps are way too small!
4.) More "big battle" game modes. This is the ultimate downer for me. I like team deathmatch, but I despise Domination! All gamemodes should be available in bigger matches, not just these two. They get old way too fast.
So that's my two-cents on what I feel about CoD4 now. It's fun & all, but I have a feeling it'll be collecting dust after the War...

| Rainbow Six 3 ruined lean functions for me. Damn glitches!
The only problem I have is Martyrdom. I hate that perk with every ounce of hate I have.

While you know what R6 is, MoH:A stays in first person mode, but when you aim down the sights, you can stand in one spot and look left, right, up, & down. You can move - you use the upper left shoulder button at the same time (are the shoulder buttons even used in CoD4? Can't remember - but if they're not, there ya go).
I played some homemade game rules today and the hardcore is by far kickass over the norm - no hud, period - you still get the map if you get your three kills, but other than that, it's just way more intense than regular. Another rule I had was only 9 lives. It makes a huge difference when you know your lives are limited...
Anyway, I'm putting money down that F:FoW will be the next shooter for me. The simple fact that it's got huge maps and more players in-game is enough to get me to want it (plus vehicles like tanks, jets, helos, etc).

I'll complete the SP and participate in the PGL War, but after that, I'm shelving this one.
You made some great points about gameplay, Thornes, most of which I agree with.

I'm actually pretty stoked with this game. I find the multiplayer tons more fun than Halo 3, which I never liked at all. Maybe something about the weapons, lack of shields, etc. I just seem to have fun with CoD4. Certainly not going to shelve it anytime soon.
I had a blast last night! Telling the opposing team "Russia will control American" in a Russian accent before the match was a ton of fun. One dude asked if I was crying in which I replied (in a Russian accent), "I can not cry for you. I will make you cry..." Good times, indeed.
I'd also like to add that it was funny hearing Zoom bitch about the game like I normally do Halo. It's like I was listening to a recording made 12 years in the future and me dawning a flat top.

I hate to say it - but you guys are dragging me down! I played with the GP quite a bit this weekend, and when I was in a room with people more my skill level, it was tons of fun - even had the high kill points a few times! So, I blame it all on Val & Zypher. You're just too damned good. Vote they must play always with pistols only? hehe
Don't get me wrong - I don't hate the game... I'll play it until ffow & the GRAW dlc comes out.

HOW can you even draw a comparison between my one or two comments to your constant drone of whining.

| i dont have issues with this, ive played with quite a few PGL'ers and they can contest im sure, im lvl 27ish, and ive played against TONS or people that are 50ish and have all the uber guns unlocked, and i can hold my own perfectly well
this game is great for everybody because it lets people run and gun OR sit and wait, i was raised on fast paced FPS (quake and unreal) so that is generally what i prefer, and i have that option in cod4, but i can just as easily select my sniper build, get into position, setup some claymore defense and have a hell of a good time picking people off. as for your comments about leaning, it just doesnt belong in a CoD game, never has been there and the game works just fine without it (there are tons of jagged corners in the game that gives the same lean effect)
it seems to me like maybe your trying to find a reason to not like the game, if thats the case just dont play it anymore, i tried to make myself like halo3, but just isnt my kind of game so, despite everybody i know playing it, i didnt, and im happier knowing that i didnt force myself to play something that i despised looking at

It seems that in Team Deathmatch I only ever play the same half a dozen maps. yet when looking in Private match there's loads more maps available.
The single player game was great, but too short, and I don't think I can be bothered to replay it, just to go treasure hunting.

| I don't think it will get an early retirement for me. Playing with other PGL'ers who are higher ranked usually does result in playing against other higher ranked people. But despite my low rank, I still do well occasionally. I haven't tried jumping into a random game yet, but I would imagine as Thornes said, that might result in a more level playing field.
I do agree about the maps though. It seems that it is usually the same ones. Perhaps those are the big ones and the only ones set up when we are all in a room together or something. But every once in a while I'll see a new map load up and it does excite me!

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Sacramento, CA Age: 37 | I like this game a bunch. I think in only a week I have already played this more then Halo3. I am not that great of a gamer, but in COD4 I have fun and can hold my own. In Halo3, so many people have dedicated their lives to this game that I hardly have a chance. It gets real frustrating fast. I also liked Gears, so maybe the Halo people tend to Halo, and the rest of us can keep playing the other games.
I think we as a group should try the other game modes available. We had the same problem with Gears. We always stuck to the same game mode, and it did get tired after awhile.

| Thornes, I was referring to RB6:3 on the OG Xbox. They had a lean function that was glitched so some people were invincible while doing it. | |

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Lambertville, NJ Age: 32 | It's a good game, not great, but a very solid release. Campaign: Easily one of the best times I've had (on veteran difficulty) since Legendary Co-Op Halo 3. The only way they could have made it better, in my opinion, is if it had some co-op. Considering you had the same people with you for most of the campaign, fitting it into the confines and plausibility of the story would have been simple, making it work would have been the only challenge.
Veteran got frustrating, not so much that levels were hard, but that the AI generally did the same exact thing over and over. Some advanced AI would have went a long way in replayability too. Multiplayer: Flawed beyond fixing. Their ranking level is so FUBAR that it's impossible for a casual gamer to compete. If I didn't have a job, a family, or a Keezy I may have the time, I just don't see it happening. I don't want to have to complete tests to have the same weapons that other players have. That's asinine. Put the frakking weapons on the battlefield so I don't have to scour the grass for a dead better player's carcass and steal his piece.
Now that I've completed all of campaign, I don't think it will stay in the tray. I'll definitely be keeping it for the war, but that's about it.
