| Other findings are that nearly a quarter of the respondents in the online survey said they feel addicted to video games. Fully 44% of the youth said their friends are addicted. Nearly eight in 10 U.S. children and teenagers play video games at least once a month.
ok on this one point in particular I would contend, what 8-18yo (much less many others) properly understand what "addiction" is. Video games like many other activities that people find enjoyable and will go to extremes of usage are not technically addictive. individual excesses and poor self regulation I would not say are addiction. I have been gaming since i was at least 10 and thats 20 years this july i have gone through points where I was "addicted" and points where i barely touched anything at all, it has to do with interest and maintaining what is important. some of those kids just need a thump upside the head to get them reoriented. |
