My 8 year old can only play after he has finished his homework, daily reading requirements and practiced his guitar. After that he can play for 30 minutes or so daily, although sometimes that stretches to an hour.

He doesn't get homework yet over the weekends, and he works so hard during the week that we usually ease up quite a bit on the weekends. He may play for a couple of hours over the weekend, but that's after he helps around the house, with his baby brother, etc.
