I pretty much got it to experiment with. It's cheap compared to other units. this was the "3 cup" model, which barely fills a decent sized mug. If I had to buy it over, I would have gotten the next size up or bigger. Like the 4 or 8 cup model.

I would also highly recommend getting a burr-type coffee grinder. It allows you to control how coarse or fine the grind is. With the press, you want a coarse grind, espresso machines need a super fine grind. You also get better flavor with freshly ground beans over pre-ground stuff.
