I think Sony is willing to take the initial loss. Every time they have released new hardware, they have been in the same situation. Over time, when manufacturing costs become a bit lower along with the profitability of software in general, Sony is hoping to recoup that loss. I hope for their sake, they are able to pull it off. I know their shareholders (me being one of them) are not overly happy.
