I was trying to figure out some of the more recent movies that have had their endings changed for US audiences. Recently, I can only think of:

28 Days Later
The Descent
Pride & Prejudice

Others? I think generally people are don't want an ending that leaves them feeling hopeless. I can see where No Country could easily do that, but I think it comes down to going into a movie knowing who the directors are. I don't know that I would ever expect a neat package with the Coen Brothers. That's just me though.
