| Damn, people get really touchy when I call the general American audience stupid. I wasn't referring to any of you really, just stating a pretty well known fact. The typical American doesn't like it when things just end with no real resolution, and you can pretty much thank the Italians for that as they were one of the first to end a movie that way back in the 1920's and 1930's.
The fact is, some people look at movies as entertainment, some people look at movies as an art, and some people look at movies as a mix of art and entertainment. I tend to lean towards the art and entertainment side, with art being first. And really, you can't say film isn't an art. If you say that, neither is music, painting, photography or anything else for that matter.
But like I said, audiences are stupid. They can spot shoddy CGI work (and awesome CGI/special effects work) a mile away but can't recognize a well written story if it bit them in the ass. This is what I like to refer to as the Michael Bay syndrome. Insane special effects? Check. Hot actress? Check. Deep and thoughtful story with excellent plot development? Uh, isn't that special effects?
And for the record, I'm a Michael Bay fan. The guy is second to none in directing action movies,
