For a little under a $100 more, you could have gone with the
Onkyo 605. The only thing there is that it only has 2 HDMI inputs, but I would probably venture to say that you don't
need HDMI for your cable box. The 605 will pass up to a 1080i signal through HDMI (meaning you could hook your cable box up via component and have the receiver output the video through HDMI).
Just something to consider. The 605 would be a better stop gap receiver until you decide to do the big upgrade. The 605 also has a better auto setup system and mic (using Auddessy or however you spell it), as well as decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA (for when you get a Bluray player that will bitstream the new codecs).
It's just a suggestion, but I think you could do a lot better than that Sony. I've never been a fan of their receivers.
