PS3 as a PC?

I saw in this month's Popular Mechanics magazine, that they show you how to convert your PS3 to a Linux PC. Sounds easy to do, but I'm really wondering...why?

I suppose you can get some kind of Linux Web Browser that would be better than the stock PS3 browser, but other than that what can you do? Can you play PC video games on it? I'm not familiar enough with Linux to know if you can simply install WIN or MAC games on a Linux platform.

If you could, I think it would be killer to use the PS3 in my Theater Room to play WoW or Battlefield. But if they don't run on Linux, what's the point?

Anyone tried doing any of this yet?
