| I'm here in Sunny San Francisco for the Xbox 360 Spring Showcase. They initially told me that it started at 8 a.m. so I booked a flight that would get me here in time. After booking my flight I come to find out that the event doesn't actually start for the US people until 1 p.m. So I had some time to kill.
My flight landed at about 8:30 a.m. this morning. After a few conference call emergencies for my daytime job I was about to grab a taxi and head over. Well since I had time I was just meandering about. I chatted with Rhino and he said I could take a BART train out to 24th and Mission and then take a cab from there the 2-4 miles to the event. This didn't sound bad as it would be cheaper and I had time to kill.
I made my way to the BART station and headed off. I played a little more of God of War 2 on the PSP while on the train and got off at my station. Took the escalator up and realized I was smack dab in the middle of the ghetto. Thankfully it was mostly brown so I somewhat fit in. I threw around my best Spanish and tried to blend in. The problem was, I had no idea where the hell I was and there were no taxis in sight. That sucked.
So Rhino shoots me directions. Walk here, turn left, turn right, blah blah. I think to myself, alright, I have time to kill right? So I start hoofing it.
By now I was pretty hungry but it was too early for the awesome ghetto restaurants to be open. I was craving some awesome Mexican grub but nothing was open. I ended up at a Mexican pastry shop and got some pastries that reminded me of growing up. Good stuff.
Since it was sunny the walk wasn't too bad. Of course, lugging around a 50lb bag pretty much sucked. It wasn't until I got about half way to the destination that I realized that I hated Rhino.
We've all seen photos of Lombard street right? Well there are some big freaking hills in San Francisco. Yeah and I was apparently going to be walking all of them. Damn Rhino.
All was not lost as I was able to snag what I hope to be some cool photos of the City and stuff that I saw once I made it to the top of the mountain I had to climb.
I made it to the event early and while they let me in to use the restroom, I haven't been able to get into the event yet.
Thankfully the reason they are limiting access is that they want to ensure a station for everyone. Rather than have people huddled around watching others play, they want to ensure that we all have a chance to play all of the games and that the devs have a chance to walk us through the games themselves.
I've said hello to a few of the media peeps so far that I recognize from past events (Major Nelson, Cliffy B, etc.), but won't get a chance to get heavy into the titles until later this afternoon.
The lunch starts at 1 p.m. and the rest of the stuff starts at 2 I believe and lasts until 6 p.m. After that there is a reception that lasts until 9 p.m. Hopefully I'll have a chance to update you all on my thoughts on these bad boys after I have a chance to play them.
Catch you all later! |
