Scrolling ads on eBay?

The other day I was scrolling through listings on Ebay, when I was interrupted repeatedly by the same scrolling ad.

I emailed support and they gave me this response:
Quote:
Thank you for writing eBay in regard to getting pop-up on your computer.

First of all I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.

I would like to inform you that, there are several reasons you may be receiving Pop-up ads. I've listed a few reasons below:

- You visited a site while surfing, and it launched pop-up windows in the background. These ads are known as "Pop-unders" since they pop up behind your regular browser window and are not immediately visible.

- Other Web pages triggered pop-ups when you left the site.

- Some freeware software that you've installed (perhaps inadvertently) caused the Pop-ups. These programs are called "adware," or "spyware."
One of their uses is to display pop-ups at random intervals. They could be triggered by anything you type on a Web page.

If you think your computer may be running "adware" or "spyware" programs that are causing Pop-ups, there are programs that can detect and help you eliminate them. Try typing "adware or "spyware" into your browser search box. You should get a list of popular programs that provide this functionality.

I also recommend searching on the Internet for a downloadable program that can detect and delete "adware" programs.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay.

Sincerely,
David D.

eBay Customer Support
This was a typical response from my friends at eBay: step 1 blame consumer, or otherwise pawn off all culpability/need for direct action.

This canned response would make more sense, except this only happened on ebay while I was scrolling down through listings, also eBay looked like it was rolling out a new version of its site and made me log into it, if I didn't have really restrictive internet settings which block all cookies except from a few sites like ebay, if I hadn't just run both an ad-aware scan, and a full system scan from my firewall/anti-virus, and if other people weren't complaining too.

My reply said as much...funny how they are taking a lot longer to respond this time.

Didn't they try something like this in 2002? Maybe we need to start screwing with this place and ruining everything...
