My Zune pass subscription started in Nov' 06 when I got my 1st gen Zune. A few months after that I decided to get my wife a pink Zune b/c at that time you could have two Zune devices on a Zune pass. Since then MS has changed it to 3 Zunes on a Zune pass. Well as was dandy, for $15 a month we could listen to 99% of what we liked on the Zune marketplace.
The only gripe I had about the Zune pass was that it is associated with only one Windows Live id. Well the Zune tags (just like Xbox Live gamertags) are associated to a Live id also. Each Zune device can be associated with a Zune tag, so both of our Zunes were associated to my Zune tag since that is what I had my Zune pass subscription on. This wasn't a problem until the 2nd Gen Zune software came out the and the real "Social" experience started. See my wife is a big country fan so all of her plays were being associated with my Zune tag. I really wanted my Zune tag to have plays of music that I listen to and not hers.
The last few days I have checked on google, live search and the zune forums, but haven't found too many answers on how to associate mulitple zune tages to a zune pass. So last night I did some of my own testing and I think I have found a decent solution. I logged my wife into her windows live account in the Zune software with her Zune connected. Then in the Zune software I went to Settings ---> Device ---> Name Your Zune. It showed her Zune was associated to my Zune tag supafreak. So I linked her Zune to her windows live account.
So now I had her Zune associated to her own Zune tag but if she wanted to download music on the Zune pass she had to be logged in with my live id b/c that was what the Zune pass subscription is under. So in the Zune software I logged her out of her live id and then logged her in as me. I disconnected her Zune and played a few songs on her Zune device. Then I connected her Zune device back up to the Zune software (logged in with my live id). I then synced her Zune up with the Zune software to see if her plays would show up on my Zune tag or hers. Well it worked!! The plays showed up on her own Zune tag not mine!!
The only tricky part to this is that if she plays any music in the Zune s/w while logged in with my live id that will show as a play on my account. I figured she could browse/discover new music logged in as her own live id then send messages to my zune tag. Then she could switch back over to my account and view the messages which will give her quick easy access to download those albums. I am not so sure she is going to want to through that hassle but it would work.
Hopefully this might help out anyone else that was having this issue. I really wish that MS would have called the Zune software something else b/c saying Zune this and Zune that gets a little confusing.
