If you're interested in great books with wacky but memorable characters and great story lines try anything by Tom Robbins. He wote books like, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, Skinny Legs And All, Still Life With Woodpecker, and my personal favorite, Jitterbug Perfume. He's got a huge library of work and is still writing to this day.
I think Peench and NoLimit would like these for sure. If you're like me though you have to read the books in chronological order, he tends to insert people from other books and write running themes in most of his work. But if you want to get an idea of what he's about read the beginings of Jitterbug Perfume and Skinny Legs and you'll get the gist.
